# Task Reviews

Review new entities, activity sources, and inventory items before task data is processed.

The task review process allows users to review and categorise any new data arriving in the system. If a new data source is detected in a task ingestion Bravegen will change the task status to In Review, and display the task review interface for the user to confirm the creation of any new entities, activity sources, and any related carbon inventory.

<details>

What determines a 'new' source?

Every activity source has a checksum (fingerprint) of mapped values, which determine its uniqueness, and link back to the data in the originating file or data collection task. If any of these values changes, Bravegen will treat it as a separate activity source, and require the user to process it via the task review process.

The checksum values are:

* Entity Identifier
* Supplier
* Goods & Service
* Source Identifier
* Unit of Measure
* Currency
* SourceType

## The task review process

The review process is comprised of 3 steps, which must be resolved before a task can be approved and processed into emissions data.

{% hint style="info" %}
Tip: To bulk approve suggested items during the review, click the green circle check button in the table header.
{% endhint %}

### New Entities

If the system does not recognise an Entity Identifier in the ingested file it will be listed here. You can choose to either link this identifier with an existing entity (eg. if a supplier has a different spelling of an entity), or have the system create a new [reporting entity](/carbon/core-concepts/reporting-entities.md).

{% hint style="warning" %}
Entities created in this manner will be placed directly below the root entity, and should be organised by an administrator into their correct reporting hierarchy.
{% endhint %}

You can choose to 'ignore' an entity identifier by switching the toggle 'off'; this will prompt you to enter a reason for ignoring before you can archive this entity. Doing this will hide any related sources from subsequent steps.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### New Sources

If the system [detects a new source](#what-determines-a-new-source), it will be listed on this table. Here you are able to update the source type. You can choose to link this source to an existing source (eg. if you want to combine the activity from multiple line items into a single source), or have the system create a new activity source. You can adjust the source name before it is created.

You can choose to 'ignore' a source by switching the toggle to 'off'; this will prompt you to enter a reason for ignoring before the source can be archived.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### New Inventory Items

For each source you have the opportunity to set or create an [inventory rule](/carbon/core-concepts/inventory-items/inventory-rules.md) that determines which inventory items to create that receive activity from this source. You can choose from the existing rules, or create a new rule inline by selecting 'new rule' from the rule selection input.

{% hint style="info" %}
Only rules that have a matching criteria are available for selection
{% endhint %}

If you choose to create a new rule, you will be prompted to select an emission factor for this source and enter a name for your new rule - we will create a rule and [inventory template](/carbon/core-concepts/inventory-items/inventory-templates.md) with our suggested GHG categorisation. You can review this from the rules UI, or via the rules link on the newly created source after the task review process is complete.

#### Spend Based Inventory Items

Spend based sources (sources that have a currency unit of measure) have a special ✨ spend-based rule which is selected by default. This rule automatically proposes a spend-based emission factor and inventory item, which bypasses the inventory item template. Learn more about [spend based inventory](/carbon/core-concepts/inventory-items/spend-based-inventory.md).
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

### Fixing accidentally created Sources or Entities

If you accidentally create or merge a source or entity during the task review process, you can follow the process for spliting, merging or moving entities or sources, after the task review process has been completed.
