# Fixing a Data Map

Correct data map issues and re-pivot files when supplier formats change.

If you see unexpected data appear during the Task Review process (eg. incorrectly named entities or sources), this is likely a sign that your data map needs to be updated. This can occur due to an incorrect initial mapping process, or if your supplier has changed the format they provide data in.

To resolve an incorrect mapping, make sure you are on the task experiencing the issue, visit the details view, then click the 'update' button next to the Data Map Version input.

This will take you to the mapping view where you can update the column mapping for the carbon map. See [Data Maps](/carbon/core-concepts/data-collection/processes/file-upload/data-maps.md) for guidance on mapping the correct columns.

Once you are satisfied that the mapping is correct, click save. This will generate a new data map version, which will be selected from the Data Map Version input on the task details view. This input will allow you to revert to an older data map if the data provider reverts their data format.

### Re-pivoting Data

At the start of the mapping process BraveGen pivots your data so that data appears in a column series, to make the mapping process easier. In rare instances if a data file format significantly changes, our 'smart' pivot service can get this wrong, resulting in either missing data, or the wrong data (eg. dates) as the column header - making it impossible to complete the mapping process.

We display a banner at the top of the screen with the button to 'Fix Data Issue' which will allow you to re-pivot your data set. Clicking this button will take you to a screen where you can provide information to guide the pivoting system.

* Header Row - Select the row that contains the header labels for your spreadsheet
* Pivot Data Set By - Select columns that contain descriptive data (like Location, Site, Activity type, Supplier, Purchased Goods, Material, etc...) we use these to group and format your activity data.

Avoid selecting columns that have quantities, or dates as their data.
