# File Upload

Upload spreadsheet and utility invoice files for processing in BraveGen.

## Overview

BraveGen processes spreadsheet files and utility invoices [automatically](/carbon/core-concepts/data-collection/processes/automation.md).

A file upload process creates tasks to collect and extract data. Each process has a unique collection address. Email files to this address to add them to future tasks.

## Supported Formats

BraveGen currently supports `.CSV`, `.XLS`, `.XLSX`, and [Utility Invoices](/carbon/core-concepts/data-collection/processes/file-upload/utility-invoices.md) only. Please contact our support team to request support for other invoices or file formats.

### Manage source files

Tasks can contain multiple files. Open the task's **Source Files** tab to view or upload files.

Choose whether to include each extracted file. Included files enter the data extraction process. Ignored files remain available for reference.

### Resolve processing errors

Processing errors appear in the task activity log. This will cause the task to display an 'error' badge, and unable to be approved for inclusion in reporting until the error is resolved, or the file is ignored. If an error is thrown, follow the instructions to [update the data map](/carbon/core-concepts/data-collection/processes/file-upload/data-maps.md#updating-a-data-map) or [fix the file formatting](/carbon/core-concepts/data-collection/processes/file-upload/data-maps.md#fixing-formatting).

Contact support if formatting changes do not resolve the issue.

#### Important

When BraveGen ingests a file, it creates a transposed `.csv` copy, which is currently included on the source files tab.
